Google's headline announcement for September is Gemini 4 Argon, a frontier model designed for advanced reasoning and heavy-duty tasks such as coding, cybersecurity defense, and financial research. It features a 1-million-token context window and is initially rolling out to trusted cyber defenders through the Fairwind Program, with broader availability planned after feedback and guardrail iteration.

Alongside Argon, Google introduced Gemini 3.8 Flash and 3.8 Flash Cyber, which offer improved reasoning and coding performance at the same speed and cost as the previous Flash generation. The company also launched Gemini 3.8 Live and Extended Thinking voice models, plus new text-to-speech models for custom voice generation. In the Gemini app, users can now connect external services like Airtable, Adobe, and Peloton, and Lyria 3.5 brings more expressive music generation.

On the science side, Google highlighted AlphaGenome Atlas for mapping human DNA, satellite-based tracking of global methane, and Project Suncatcher, which tests machine learning hardware in orbit. The company also made Googlebook available for pre-order, brought Gemini to Windows, and noted that Fast Company named it the 2026 Design Company of the Year.
