OpenAI has announced the Rosalind Academic Plan, which gives eligible academic research labs sponsored access to GPT-Rosalind, its life sciences model, and the Rosalind Workbench. The plan is intended to support foundational research in areas like drug design, genomics, and wet-lab assistance.

Eligible labs receive up to 30 Business Standard seats at no cost for up to 12 months, with access to GPT-Rosalind subject to trusted-access approval. The plan also includes access to all commercially available frontier OpenAI models, subject to plan usage limits.

OpenAI says research data shared through the plan is not used to train its models by default. The announcement cites early use by labs including the Zhao Lab at UCSF, the Bourdenx Lab, and a Stanford/Arc Institute lab led by Brian Hie, working on protein design and neurodegeneration.
