The Latent Space AINews roundup reports that Pi 1.0 and Pi Durable both reached the front page of Hacker News, giving the minimalist agent harness a stable release and a TypeScript port. Pi 1.0 focuses on making the harness more practical: native support for MCP, Jev, and image models in codemode; deferred tool loading; cache warming for Anthropic models; and mid-conversation system messages that let prompts and tools change based on transcript context. It also ships a new TUI theme and defaults to full-screen mode.

Pi Durable is the bigger architectural change. It ports Pi to TypeScript and externalizes all stateful components, so every step is recorded as a checkpointed task. If a process fails or restarts, agents and subagents resume from their last exact state. Because state is external, the harness runs anywhere with a JavaScript runtime—Node, Bun, or Cloudflare—and can use pluggable storage backends such as Memory, SQLite, or JSONL.

The port also adds concurrency, letting one harness run multiple parallel branching conversations without blocking. Developers can bundle custom prompts, tools, hooks, and durable multi-step tasks into installable extensions. Context management compacts older messages in the background to stay within token limits, and application state can be stored in documents alongside transcripts so multiple users or UIs can watch and steer the same agent. Tool and extension code can be hot-swapped while the agent is running.
