TII has introduced Falcon-ASR, a 1.6B-parameter speech recognition model built for Arabic, with a particular emphasis on Emirati dialect and usage. The model is positioned as a step toward better Arabic-language voice interfaces, an area where large open models remain relatively scarce.

According to the announcement, Falcon-ASR reaches a 20.92% average word error rate across six Arabic test sets. That figure suggests competitive performance for a model of its size, though the lack of released weights or an API means independent verification and practical deployment are not yet possible.

For now, the release is primarily a technical preview. Researchers and developers interested in Arabic ASR will have to wait for TII to open access before they can test Falcon-ASR themselves or compare it against other models on their own data.
