Harry Stebbings, founder of the media and investment firm 20VC, has walked back his previous commitment to the "996" working culture, saying he regrets taking the controversial philosophy so literally.

"996" refers to working from 9am to 9pm, six days a week, a schedule popularised in Chinese tech culture. Stebbings had previously committed to the approach.

"I regret 996 in many ways," he said at the Sifted Summit. The comments mark a shift for a founder whose firm operates at the intersection of tech media and venture investing.
