Amazon is responding to reports of an unusual Alexa Plus bug that causes some Echo smart speakers to repeat the syllable "lalala" for minutes at a time. The behavior has been documented on Reddit over the past few weeks, with multiple users uploading videos of the issue across different Echo models. In some cases, the chanting interrupts normal conversations, and when users ask Alexa what it is doing, the assistant seems to have no memory of the outburst.
The company told Android Authority that the problem affects "a small number of Alexa Plus" users and that a fix is already in the works. The statement did not specify a timeline for the update, nor did it explain what might be triggering the loop. The reports have continued as recently as three days ago, according to The Verge.
For a paid tier of Alexa, the glitch raises questions about the reliability of Amazon's AI assistant features. While the company frames the issue as isolated, the repeated reports and the eerie nature of the singing have drawn attention on social media. Amazon has not yet commented on whether affected users will receive any form of compensation or acknowledgment beyond the promised fix.
