Anbernic has built its name on affordable handhelds, but the newly detailed RG DDS is a clear step upmarket. Engadget reports that the premium dual-screen clamshell will cost $299.99, with a preorder price of $284.99. That is almost double the original Nintendo 3DS launch price, positioning the device as a higher-end alternative rather than a budget nostalgia play.
The price is backed by a notable spec list: a Snapdragon G2 Gen 2 processor, Android 16, up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, plus Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.4 and 1080p display output. Anbernic is also including an AI button that will provide game guides, real-time translation and other features. The RG DDS will not offer the 3DS's glasses-free 3D effect, but its higher-resolution screens may compensate.
Anbernic says the device will ship gradually starting December 10, 2026, in Glacier White, Basalt Black and Phantom Blue. Whether consumers will pay a premium price for a dedicated emulation handheld remains an open question, but the RG DDS signals that Anbernic sees room to grow beyond its budget roots.
