Apple has introduced a purchase limit on its new iPhone Duo, capping pre-orders at two units per customer across its online stores. Engadget confirmed the restriction by testing carts in the US, Japan, Spain, and the UK, where adding a third unit triggered a warning message. The limit applies regardless of configuration.
The move follows Apple's statement that demand for the Duo was extraordinary, which pushed shipping dates into 2027. As of now, all checked stores show a January 22 shipping estimate. Some early buyers reportedly managed to order more than two when pre-orders opened on October 16, but it remains unclear when the cap was introduced.
Apple has not explained how it will prevent scalpers from using multiple accounts or payment methods. Meanwhile, third-party retailers like Best Buy are still listing earlier availability, with a November 10 date for the 512GB model and December 14 for the 256GB version.
