Apple announced a new Apple TV 4K streaming box with Siri AI, priced at $299 and shipping November 13. Both Engadget and TechCrunch report that the device includes an upgraded A19 chip and three far-field microphones, allowing users to talk to Siri without picking up the remote. The assistant is designed to improve content discovery and recommendations, answering questions such as which Apple TV shows won Emmys or where a series was filmed.
Engadget adds a detail TechCrunch doesn't mention: Siri AI will also be available as beta software on older Apple TV 4K models, going back to the second-gen box released in 2021. It will arrive through tvOS 27.2 this fall, likely on or before the new hardware's November 13 launch. That makes the AI upgrade available to more users without requiring a $300 purchase.
However, Engadget notes that older units may not get the full Siri AI experience. They lack the integrated far-field microphones of the new model, though their remotes have mics, and they have less processing power. It's also unclear whether they'll support all the updated smart home controls in tvOS 27.2; Apple has not yet clarified the feature set.
TechCrunch adds that the new remote includes a small speaker to help locate it, and that Siri AI is rolling out across Apple platforms as part of a broader push into AI. The two reports agree on the core product details, with the main difference being Engadget's reporting on backward compatibility for older Apple TV 4K owners.
