Blacksmith, a platform for building and testing software including AI-generated code, announced a $66 million Series C round led by Sequoia that values the company at $1 billion. The round brings Blacksmith's total funding to $125 million.

Blacksmith focuses on continuous integration, which co-founder and CEO Aditya Jayaprakash described as making the process of building, testing, merging, and validating code changes less painful. He said that many companies are struggling to keep up with the volume of CI needed as AI writes more of the world's software, and that the key question is whether that code can be trusted.

The company reported that its annual recurring revenue has grown 17x and that it has run more than 90 million CI jobs. Customers include Mercury and Granola. The new round comes just two months after a $45 million Series B that valued the company at $550 million, and a year after Blacksmith was valued at $60 million following a $10 million Series A.
