Deep Silver is releasing free next-gen updates for Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux, adding 4K resolution, higher frame rates, and console-specific features like adaptive triggers and spatial audio. The updates arrive on October 22 for PC and October 29 for consoles, and also include community bug fixes on PC.

The timing is notable: Metro 2039, the next mainline entry, is scheduled for February 4, 2027. By refreshing the older games at no cost, Deep Silver can re-engage the existing player base and generate renewed interest in the franchise ahead of the new release. This is a common strategy in the gaming industry to maintain momentum between major launches.

While these are not full remakes, they extend the lifespan of the Redux versions and offer a low-friction way for new players to catch up on the series' story before Metro 2039 arrives. The free nature of the upgrades also builds goodwill, which may translate into stronger day-one sales for the upcoming title.
