Google Maps has been mapping the world since 2005, but not every useful spot has an official address. The app lets users drop a custom pin anywhere, which can be handy for meeting friends in a park, remembering where you parked, or marking a scenic viewpoint. For business users, the same feature helps keep track of client locations that aren't in standard directories.
On mobile, open the app and press and hold the spot you want to mark. From there you can add a label, save the pin to a list, or share it. On a computer, click the area to see GPS coordinates in a small box, then click those coordinates to open the info panel. Right-clicking also offers options to copy coordinates or share the location directly.
Beyond single pins, Google's My Maps feature lets you build custom maps with multiple layers for different location types, such as parks, restaurants, and tourist attractions. Each map can hold up to 10,000 lines, shapes, or places. The source notes that this is useful for keeping a detailed map of business clients for quick navigation, though custom maps can only be created on desktop while being viewable in the mobile app.
