Eight Sleep has announced the Pod 6, the latest version of its temperature-regulating smart mattress cover. Both The Verge and Engadget report that the company calls it its "most significant hardware launch to date," with the redesigned cooling hub now small enough to fit under most bed frames. The hub circulates temperature-controlled water through the cover and is roughly 20 percent faster at making temperature adjustments than the previous model.
The Pod 6 also upgrades health tracking. The Verge notes that the number of biometric sensors in the mattress cover increases from two in the Pod 5 to 18 in the Pod 6, and Engadget confirms the sensors track heart rate, breathing rate, heart rate variability, snoring, and sleep stages without a wearable. Both outlets say the sensors feed Eight Sleep's AI-powered Autopilot, which automatically adjusts bed temperature, and that the system can distinguish between two sleepers and even separate a human's signal from a pet's.
The two reports agree on the main trade-off: the Pod 6 is cheaper than the Pod 5 but still expensive. The Verge lists the standard Pod 6 at $2,699 to $2,999 depending on mattress size, while Engadget says prices "balloon" to around $3,000. Both also highlight a new Solo model for single sleepers, priced at $1,999 by The Verge and "starting at $2,000" by Engadget. A mandatory Autopilot subscription remains, priced at $199 to $399 per year in The Verge's reporting and $17 to $25 per month in Engadget's. The Pod 6 is available now from Eight Sleep's online store.
