Elon Musk has settled two lawsuits filed by Arizona residents who accused his 2024 $1 million daily voter giveaway of being fraudulent. The settlement amount was not disclosed, and the cases were resolved in Austin, Texas.
The plaintiffs argued that Musk falsely claimed winners would be chosen randomly. But during a hearing, Chris Gober, a representative for Musk's America PAC, said the recipients were not selected by chance and that the PAC knew exactly who would be announced. That directly contradicted Musk's public statements, and the plaintiffs said they would never have signed the required petition if they had known the selection was not random.
The lawsuits also alleged that the giveaway was a ploy to collect personal data. The petition's terms placed no limits on how America PAC could use or sell the data, and provided no further information about planned data use. Philadelphia's district attorney had separately sued to stop the giveaway as an illegal lottery.
