Fairphone has introduced the Fairbuds 2, its second pair of repairable wireless earbuds, now available in the UK and Europe with a US launch scheduled for November 2. The new model retains the tool-free repairability of the original while improving audio and nearly doubling battery life.
The earbuds feature a redesigned stemmed form, a case 37% smaller, and up to 40 hours of total playback without ANC (eight hours in the buds, six with ANC). They use bio-cellulose drivers, support LDAC, and have multipoint connectivity. The Verge's hands-on found good sound and effective ANC, though not the most polished at the price.
Repairability remains the core selling point: each bud's battery can be removed in under a minute without tools, and a single T5 screw opens the case. Fairphone sells seven user-replaceable parts and backs the product with a three-year warranty. The company also says 49% of materials are fair and recycled, with fair working conditions.
