FedEx is ordering 2,000 electric trucks from EV startup Harbinger in a deal worth $300 million. Harbinger, which already has trucks in production, plans to deliver all 2,000 by the end of next year, the company told TechCrunch. It is the largest bulk order yet for Harbinger, which was founded in 2022 by former employees of Anduril, Canoo, and QuantumScape.
FedEx led a $160 million Series C funding round for Harbinger late last year and has already received 53 trucks as part of an earlier order placed alongside that investment. Harbinger's focus has been a single main product: an electric medium-duty commercial truck chassis. That approach has put the company into production and generating revenue within a few years of founding.
Harbinger is also expanding beyond its core truck business. The company is moving into hybrid emergency vehicles, acquired an autonomous driving company in February, and is selling its battery packs for energy storage. It is also exploring defense use cases. Axios reported in May that Harbinger is considering an IPO.
