Google Maps is moving beyond navigation to become a dining discovery and ordering platform. The company released its first fan-favorite dining list, compiled from Maps user trends in 10 global cities, and highlighted new AI-powered features for finding and ordering food.
Conversational ordering through Ask Maps now works with Square and Uber Eats as well as Toast. The Explore tab shows nearby trending restaurants, while the Know Before You Go tab aggregates user-contributed details such as dress codes and parking situations.
The dining list shows notable regional trends: cheeseburger interest rose 216% in Tokyo, Michelada interest grew 78% in Santiago, and Ube interest spiked 75% in Melbourne. Google also categorized top spots by meals, beverages, and sweet treats, reflecting how social media shapes dining choices across cities.
