Google has begun rolling out Gemini in navigation for the iOS version of Google Maps, bringing the company's conversational assistant to CarPlay. The update adds a Gemini icon at the bottom right of the Maps interface; tapping it lets drivers ask questions and get help while navigating.
Google says the assistant is designed for conversational interactions on the road, such as finding stops, reporting traffic issues, and asking about places. It is particularly suited to multi-part questions, like asking about a park with views overlooking a city.
The rollout starts today for CarPlay users in the United States and globally, though the company notes it may take a few days for the update to appear on every device. The announcement follows Google's introduction of Gemini Personal Intelligence for Android Auto, which lets the assistant pull information from other Google apps to personalize responses.
