Gudea, a Minneapolis-based startup that predicts which online narratives will go viral, has raised $7 million in seed funding. Mudita Venture Partners and Silicon Road Ventures co-led the round, bringing the company's total funding to roughly $15 million since its 2023 founding. Gudea says revenue grew 357% year over year and that it currently serves 39 customers, including unnamed major AI, telecommunications, entertainment, and retail companies.

The company's approach differs from traditional social listening tools. Instead of tracking mentions and hashtags, Gudea maps how information moves across people, groups, and platforms, then predicts how far a narrative will spread, when it will take off, and when it will fade. Co-founder and CEO Keith Presley describes the product as a "storm tracker for the internet," using deep learning and graph neural networks to identify behavior patterns that act like "fingerprints." An LLM then summarizes the findings.

Gudea grew out of the George Washington Initiative, a nonprofit that adapted intelligence-community tactics used to disrupt online extremist networks. The team's turning point came when it analyzed backlash to Bud Light's campaign with Dylan Mulvaney and found critics were using the same information pathways that had carried COVID disinformation. That realization led to the commercial spinout in 2023, with an initial focus on reputational risk management.

The startup also examines who is driving conversations, including accounts exhibiting unusual behavior, and how narratives move from fringe communities to mainstream platforms. Its work has included analyzing claims linking Taylor Swift to Nazism, which Gudea says were being manipulated, as well as cases of corporate espionage and stock market manipulation. Investor Buddy Foster of Mudita Venture Partners contrasts Gudea with "reactive and surface-layer" tools, arguing that because Gudea looks at behavior rather than content, it can spot problems before anyone knows to search for them.
