Apple's HomePod Mini 2, released after a six-year gap, is a strategic refresh of its entry-level smart speaker. The new model is powered by the S10 chip, bringing Siri AI to the home for general conversation and, when paired with an Apple Intelligence-compatible device, access to Messages, Calendar, Reminders, and other apps for contextual assistance.

The most significant upgrades are in connectivity. The speaker moves from Wi-Fi 4 and Bluetooth 5 to Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 6, adding a 6 GHz band to avoid congestion and improving spatial awareness. These changes support a new four-speaker surround sound configuration with Apple TV 4K, positioning the HomePod Mini 2 as a stronger alternative to home theater speakers from Sonos or JBL.

Apple also introduced Sound Glow, an ambient light that pulses with audio, rather than adding a smart display. The HomePod Mini 2 retains its role as a HomeKit hub, including Sound Recognition and smart home management. For Apple, the upgrade is less about a single speaker and more about deepening integration across HomeKit, Apple TV, and Apple Intelligence to keep users within its ecosystem.
