Honor introduced the Magic 9 Pro Max in China today, the company's first flagship since teaming up with camera maker Arri. The collaboration shows up in both design and optics: the camera island echoes the three-lens turret from the 1937 Arriflex 35, and Arri contributed video features like LogC3 capture, preset Look LUTs, and support for the APV 10-bit 4:2:2 codec. The main and telephoto lenses are both 200-megapixel, while the ultrawide doesn't support all of Arri's Cinema Mode features.

Beyond the camera, Honor says the larger camera island frees up internal space for a huge 8,800mAh battery with 40% silicon content. The phone runs on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, though it doesn't support the 8K60 or 4K240 video that chip enables. Honor told The Verge that choice was 'about delivering a complete and consistent flagship experience, rather than pursuing a single benchmark result.'

The Magic 9 series goes on sale in China today. Honor has not yet given a date for the international rollout, only confirming that it is coming.
