Hulu has given a full-series order to Ryan Coogler's X-Files revival, following a pilot pickup in February. The order is a notable bet on a beloved franchise and a high-profile filmmaker, especially after Hulu declined to move forward with a Buffy the Vampire Slayer sequel pilot.

Coogler wrote and directed the pilot and will executive produce the series. Jennifer Yale is showrunner. The show stars Danielle Deadwyler and Himesh Patel as two FBI agents assigned to a long-shuttered division handling unexplained phenomena. Coogler has described the project as a "new chapter" rather than a total reboot, aiming to honor the original while finding a new way into that world.

For Hulu, the order turns a high-profile pilot into a flagship series, betting that Coogler's name and the X-Files IP can draw viewers. The series will still have to manage the original's sprawling 11-season mythology, but the full-season commitment suggests the platform sees enough promise in this new pairing to move forward.
