Instagram is internally exploring a read-only mode for its Plus subscription tier, according to screenshots shared by leaker Alessandro Paluzzi. The feature would allow users to browse a profile without liking, commenting, messaging, following, or viewing stories, effectively leaving no visible trace of activity.

An Instagram spokesperson told Engadget that the feature is "an internal only exploration, not testing externally at all." Tech platforms often experiment with features that never launch, and this concept may never reach users.

The potential for misuse is notable, as the reduced visibility could enable stalking or other unwanted surveillance. Engadget notes that it is unclear whether Instagram has acknowledged these safety concerns internally, and hopes the team addresses them before any possible external tests or launch.
