Apple's iPhone Duo carries the highest starting price of any iPhone at $1,999, but Engadget's analysis finds that buyers give up several camera features found on the lower-priced iPhone 18 Pro. The Duo has two 48MP rear cameras—main and ultrawide—but no dedicated telephoto, capping optical-quality zoom at 2x versus the 18 Pro's 4x telephoto and 8x cropped option. It also lacks variable aperture, ProRAW, ProRes, and manual Pro Controls.

Engadget notes Apple hasn't explained the omissions, but physical constraints are a likely factor: a foldable's camera hardware must fit into one thin half and compete with batteries for space. The tradeoff is a set of foldable-specific camera tricks, including using the partially folded phone as a tripod, an outer-screen viewfinder for rear-camera selfies, automatic group-shot capture via Smart Take, and Duo FaceTime for adding someone on the outer display.

Both phones share features like 24MP and 48MP photos, adjustable portraits, and 4K Dolby Vision at 120fps. But for users who want distant zoom, advanced editing, or professional video, Engadget says the iPhone 18 Pro remains the more complete camera system. The Duo, in other words, is not simply an iPhone 18 Pro that folds.
