LG has added DTS:X and Google Cast to its Sound Suite modular home theater system, according to Engadget. The update targets the H7 soundbar, the system's centerpiece, and is part of LG's response to customer feedback.
The company also expanded networking options, including support for Wi-Fi 6 GHz networks and 5 GHz DFS channels, and added support for dual W7 subwoofers. These changes give users more flexibility in configuring speakers and streaming content directly from phones or other devices.
LG teased a "Media Connect Hub" for DTS:X devices, currently in development, which could expand access to DTS:X content from external sources. Engadget notes the description is vague and that the hub might connect Blu-ray or 4K Ultra HD disc players, but that is speculation.
The software updates are rolling out in some regions, with timing and availability varying by location. The move positions LG to compete more directly in the premium home theater segment by adding features customers have asked for.
