Ryan Roslansky, who rose from LinkedIn CEO to head of Microsoft's Office and Teams units, is leaving the company after nearly 18 years. Both CNBC and The Verge reported the departure on Oct. 1, citing internal memos from CEO Satya Nadella.

Nadella praised Roslansky's team for 'critical work' on the foundations for Copilot, which Microsoft last week positioned as 'the OS for work.' The two outlets agree on that framing, though CNBC ties it directly to the new unified Copilot app while The Verge notes the exit comes a week after that announcement and about a month after Roslansky warned that fully AI-generated documents could create a 'doom loop' of generic work.

The Verge adds that Roslansky's departure triggered another leadership shuffle: Charles Lamanna will take over Office and Teams as part of the Copilot, Agents, and Platform organization, and chief design officer Jon Friedman will report to Copilot chief Jacob Andreou. Dan Shapero, who became LinkedIn CEO earlier this year, will continue reporting to Nadella.

In his own memo, Roslansky said the decision was hard but he was unwilling to relocate from the Bay Area to Microsoft's Redmond headquarters full time. He said he knew leading the next phase required being in Redmond every day, but his family's life is in California.
