MAVI, an AI-powered talent marketplace for finance and accounting, emerged from stealth on Monday with a $4 million seed round led by Harlem Capital. The startup connects US companies with global accounting professionals who are proficient in AI tools, aiming to address a shrinking domestic talent pool.

Co-CEO Molly Liu, formerly of Ramp, Lyft, and Dropbox, said the US accounting profession is shrinking and many remaining accountants lack AI skills. MAVI handles cross-border hiring complexities such as contracts, legal, compliance, and payroll, and focuses on full-time mid-level and senior placements that augment in-house teams.

Liu argues that AI will automate many entry-level roles, which will reduce the pipeline of talent growing into mid-level positions. That makes experienced humans who can exercise judgment more important, not less. She describes a new kind of accountant: someone with strong fundamentals who can direct AI tools, catch their errors, and integrate LLMs into finance workflows.

The company says it has more than 3,000 accounting professionals on its platform and counts personal care company Athena Club among its enterprise clients. MAVI's bet is that the future finance team will be smaller, more senior, and augmented by AI — with global talent playing a larger role.
