Mercedes-AMG has unveiled its first ground-up full-size SUV, the 2028 AMG GT SUV, built on the AMG.EA architecture. It marks a milestone for the 59-year-old performance brand, which previously had not developed an SUV entirely in-house. The model will arrive in the US next summer in three trims: GT 53, GT 55, and GT 63.
The top GT 63 trim produces 1,153hp from three axial flux motors, beating the Porsche Cayenne Turbo Electric with Launch Control. The 800-volt system supports up to 710kW charging on the 128kWh battery, adding around 280 miles of WLTP range in 10 minutes. Mercedes says the F1-inspired battery uses oil-cooled cylindrical cells for sustained high-power delivery.
The SUV also features active hydraulic suspension to reduce pitch and roll, plus an AI-based Predictive Performance Manager that adjusts motor output based on track topography. Inside, MB.OS runs AI agents from ChatGPT, Microsoft, and Google for voice control and navigation. Pricing has not been announced.
