Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella recently outlined a major repositioning of Copilot at an invite-only customer event, calling it the "OS for work." The company is merging consumer and enterprise Copilot apps into a single interface and adding coding, agents, and full Office capabilities for the first time.
The redesign marks a shift away from the consumer-oriented design launched by Mustafa Suleyman. The new app resembles the commercial version, with tabs for chat, coding, and Autopilot, an agent formerly known as Scout. Sources say the rebrand was driven in part by legal concerns over the Scout name, as Yahoo uses that branding for its own AI features.
Microsoft is betting on its enterprise strengths rather than competing with consumer AI agents. Copilot chief Jacob Andreou acknowledged that agents are "absolutely terrifying to an IT admin," but argued that consumer-grade UX is needed in the workplace. The company also sees a market among the roughly 90 million people who pay for Microsoft 365 out of pocket, keeping a consumer angle alive.
