Microsoft is updating its Surface Mouse for the first time in a decade, adding haptic feedback and a customizable action button. The $79.99 accessory will ship on October 13th, the same day Microsoft launches its refreshed Surface Pro 12-inch and Surface Laptop 13-inch devices. The new mouse features a soft-touch top and Bluetooth 6.0, allowing it to pair with up to three devices.
The haptic feedback is designed to provide subtle physical responses for actions like clicks, drags, and window alignment across Windows 11, and it also triggers in apps such as PowerPoint, Affinity, Concepts, and Filmora. Microsoft added Windows 11 haptic support earlier this year, and so far the company and Logitech are the main hardware makers using it. The customizable action button defaults to Copilot, Microsoft’s AI assistant, but can be reconfigured through the Surface app for other shortcuts.
According to Brett Ostrum, corporate vice president of Surface Devices, the haptics are “subtle by design, but noticeable within seconds — and hard to give up once you have it.” The original Surface Mouse launched in 2016 and has remained unchanged until now.
