Microsoft's Windows and Surface event takes place October 7 in San Francisco, starting at 10AM PT (1PM ET), with CEO Satya Nadella, Windows and Devices chief Pavan Davuluri, and NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang scheduled to speak. The roughly one-hour presentation will be livestreamed on YouTube, and both Engadget previews describe it as heavily focused on local AI and the next chapter of the PC.

Expected to headline is the Surface Laptop Ultra, a 15-inch mini LED laptop with up to 2,000 nits of brightness, a full-size SD card reader, and what Microsoft has described as its largest trackpad ever. The machine runs on NVIDIA's RTX Spark superchip, which NVIDIA says delivers 1 petaflop of AI computing power. The reports expect Microsoft to pair that hardware with agentic AI features that need minimal user input, and to reveal pricing and availability.

The two previews are broadly aligned. Both note that Microsoft has scaled back some Copilot features after negative reactions, and both say a new Windows 12 OS is unlikely this year, with Microsoft instead focused on Windows 11 improvements and AI integration. The only notable difference is that one report adds that this is Microsoft's first laptop-centric event in two years, a detail the other does not mention; neither contradicts the other.
