Mojang Studios announced at Minecraft Live that The Sift will be the first new dimension added to Minecraft since The End arrived with the 1.0 release in late 2011. The dimension is slated for Java and Bedrock Editions in 2027, but players will get an earlier look in Minecraft Dungeons 2, the sequel to the dungeon-crawler spinoff, which launches September 29.

For a franchise that has sold more than 425 million copies and still draws over 300,000 first-time players on an average day, a new dimension is a significant content milestone. The staggered rollout gives Mojang a way to drive interest in Dungeons 2 while building anticipation for the core game. Details remain scarce: Mojang only named the Meadows and the Carapace as new areas and said new mobs will act as companions or threats.

The announcement also arrives as Minecraft prepares to launch on Nintendo Switch 2 on October 27. With little concrete information about The Sift's gameplay, the move appears aimed at keeping both new and returning players engaged across platforms while extending the franchise's commercial momentum.
