Mistral has released Mistral Large 3, a new flagship general-purpose model it describes as "state-of-the-art". The Paris-based company is positioning the release as a bid to re-establish itself as a key player in the frontier AI race, where OpenAI and Google currently lead.
The model is available on Microsoft Azure and AWS Bedrock, and is aimed at enterprise workloads. Mistral also introduced a smaller model, Mistral Small 3, which can run on-device. CEO Arthur Mensch said the company is "not going to stop" and is focused on closing the gap with competitors.
The launch comes after Mistral raised €600m at a valuation of €5.8bn, giving it more resources to compete. The company says its new model is competitive with leading systems, though it faces an uphill battle.
