Elon Musk’s main political vehicle, America PAC, is focusing its midterm firepower on the Senate races most likely to decide chamber control, according to a WIRED analysis of federal filings. As of October 6, the super PAC had deployed $21 million of its $26.7 million in total spending into seven close Senate contests. That makes Senate races the centerpiece of a midterm effort that is much smaller than in 2024, when the PAC spent $261 million, mostly on the presidential race.

The PAC’s spending is overwhelmingly negative. For every dollar backing a Republican candidate, more than two went to opposing a Democrat, and in Senate races the ratio was three to one. The pattern shows up sharply in individual contests: in Texas, America PAC spent over $7.6 million against Democrat James Talarico versus $1.1 million for Republican Ken Paxton; in Iowa, it outspent support for Republican Ashley Hinson by 14 times attacking Democrat Josh Turek; and in Ohio, it spent double attacking Sherrod Brown as defending incumbent Jon Husted.

WIRED’s review also found that America PAC has spent more than $83 million boosting Republican candidates and causes since President Donald Trump’s second term began. Musk separately gave $40 million to other Republican groups between June 2025 and May 2026. The PAC reported just $274,171 in the bank at the end of June, and the donors behind its recent surge will not be disclosed until an October 15 filing, so the full picture of who is funding this push remains unclear. The source is a single WIRED report, so no independent confirmation or contrasting data is available. Future FEC filings, the story notes, will shed light on field operations and donor identity.
