Owners of Amazon's latest base-model Kindles are reporting a light leak problem, according to The Verge. In dark mode, some devices show shadows around the screen edge or even visible LED strips. The reports come from Reddit users, and the issue appears to affect both plastic and aluminum models in all colors.
Some minor glow around the edges may be a normal byproduct of front lighting combined with a flush screen. But the images shared on Reddit show something more dramatic that users believe is a defect.
Good e-Reader says Amazon is aware of the issue and has confirmed that a manufacturing issue may have led to defects in the current batch. However, Amazon declined to provide an on-the-record statement to The Verge, so the company's official position remains unclear.
