Nintendo of America has secured a $4.5 million damages award in a lawsuit against an individual accused of selling pirated Switch games. The judgment came by default because the defendant, James Williams, did not respond in court.
Nintendo's complaint, filed in 2024, described Williams as the "operator, overseer and driving force behind several Pirate Shops." Williams was also known online as Archbox and reportedly moderated the r/SwitchPirates subreddit, though Engadget notes he does not currently appear on the moderator list.
The court ordered Williams to immediately disable access to all online shops he controls that offer pirated Switch game libraries. The outcome required little work from Nintendo's legal team, as the case was effectively uncontested.
