New York City's legislative body is set to hear directly from senior leaders of four major AI companies. The executives, from Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, and Meta, will testify under oath about the dangers posed by advanced artificial intelligence systems.

The hearing, scheduled for Monday, comes after a period of intense public debate over the risks of advanced AI models. It will be conducted as a Council Committee of the Whole, an unusual format in which all 51 council members are expected to participate, according to an announcement from Council Speaker Julie Menin.

The companies are expected to outline the threats they see from AI and offer their views on potential legislative responses. Menin said the goal is to understand the risks and consider regulatory measures.
