According to The Verge, OnePlus today launched the OnePlus 16 in China, its first flagship since the company pulled out of the US and European markets earlier this summer. The device is positioned around performance, with a Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset, up to 1TB of storage, and 16GB of RAM. It also packs a 9,000mAh silicon-carbon battery, one of the largest seen in an Android flagship, plus 100W wired and 50W wireless charging.
The phone's display jumps to a 185Hz OLED panel, a first for the company, supporting 185fps gaming in compatible titles and 165Hz throughout the system UI. The camera system also gets a meaningful upgrade, with a 200-megapixel main sensor, a larger 1/1.4-inch-type sensor, and a faster f/1.4 aperture than the OnePlus 15's, alongside 50-megapixel ultrawide and telephoto lenses.
The Verge's Dominic Preston calls the OnePlus 16 the company's most interesting phone in years, noting a design flourish with LED lighting on the silver finish that flashes in different rhythms for notifications. But the business significance is narrower: with OnePlus no longer operating in the US or Europe, the 16 will not launch in either market, leaving China as the sole release venue.
