The Defense Department plans to livestream the execution of Nidal Hasan, the former Army major convicted of killing 13 people at Fort Hood in 2009. The execution is scheduled for Dec. 3 at 2 p.m. ET, according to anonymous DoD officials who spoke to the BBC and Associated Press.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said in an interview with Real America's Voice that the event will be public, arguing that people need to see the consequences of serious crimes. The Verge asked YouTube, Twitch, TikTok, Meta, Rumble, and Kick whether they would allow the stream; none responded before publication.

The plan puts major platforms in a difficult spot. Their content policies generally restrict graphic violence, but a government-produced execution stream would be an unusual test case. The silence from the companies suggests they have not yet decided whether to carry, restrict, or block the broadcast.
