Rivian reported third-quarter production of 19,751 vehicles and deliveries of 19,248, a 45% year-over-year increase in deliveries and an 85% jump in production. Electrek notes deliveries rose 58% sequentially from Q2. The Verge, TechCrunch, and Electrek all attribute the surge to the R2 SUV, which launched in June and had its first full quarter of sales.
Rivian reaffirmed full-year guidance of 65,000 to 70,000 deliveries, which TechCrunch says would be its best year ever after several years stuck near 50,000. The growth comes against a weak EV market: The Verge cites Cox Automotive data showing US EV sales down nearly 24% year over year, and Electrek puts EV share at 6–7%, down from a peak above 10% in 2025.
The sources differ on how much of Q3 volume was R2. The Verge estimates roughly 6,000 R2 deliveries, assuming R1 and van sales stayed flat; TechCrunch and Electrek do not provide a model split, with Electrek noting only the higher-priced R2 Performance trim is on sale so far. Separately, TechCrunch reported a recall for about 14 R2s with potentially under-torqued battery-pack fasteners, the vehicle's second recall since launch.
