The Savannah Police Department fired officer Amber Harpe in August after an internal investigation found she had shared her Flock license-plate camera login with her husband, Tyler Harpe, an ICE agent. SPD does not share its Flock data with ICE, and the department said the shared access violated its security protocols.
While he had unauthorized access, Tyler Harpe conducted 983 searches involving 97 license plates, most of which were registered to Hispanic drivers, according to local ABC affiliate WJCL. The Harpes said the searches were not for personal reasons and were strictly for law-enforcement purposes.
Interim Major Max Nowinsky initially recommended an eight-hour suspension, but Major Michelle Halford and Assistant Police Chief Robert Gavin disagreed and removed Harpe from the force. She was one of six SPD employees fired for Flock misuse uncovered in the same investigation; four of those former employees were later arrested, though Harpe was not.
