Sega is pulling Total War: Shogun 2 — Complete Edition from storefronts after a launch marred by complaints. The remaster, released Tuesday, bundled the 2011 strategy game with all DLC and promised improved visuals, 1440p and 4K UI scaling, and modernized controls. Players instead reported bugs and artwork that appeared to be upscaled by AI.

The Steam version has already been removed and currently holds an "Overwhelmingly Negative" rating. Reddit posts show examples of artwork that users believe AI messed up. Sega and developer Creative Assembly acknowledged the release fell short of both player expectations and their own standards, saying they agree the current experience is not where it needs to be.

The companies said they will reinstate the original game, and existing owners will still be able to access Complete Edition. They are working with a development partner to identify the causes and deliver improvements. A studio called Mataboo is also listed as a developer on Steam and highlights its work on the game.
