Singapore-based Nexstrom has raised a new round of funding to continue work on equipment designed for chip fabrication plants. The company is focused on 2D semiconductor materials, which are considered a potential alternative to conventional silicon in advanced chips.

According to TechCrunch, the startup's equipment could help chipmakers move 2D materials from research into high-volume manufacturing. The funding amount was not disclosed in the report.

While the technology is still in an early phase, the ability to produce 2D semiconductors at scale is seen as a key step for the industry. Nexstrom's work targets the manufacturing tools needed to make that transition practical.
