Sling TV has discontinued its Sling Passes, the short-term access option that let viewers watch channels such as ESPN and CNN without committing to a full month of service. The feature, introduced last year, offered day, weekend, and week-long passes. The change was first reported by The Desk, and Sling confirmed it in a statement on its website.
The passes drew legal challenges almost immediately. Disney and Warner Bros. Discovery sued Sling TV over the offering, though a federal judge declined to block the feature at Disney's request for a preliminary injunction. The current status of the lawsuit is not detailed in the report.
In its statement, Sling said the passes "delivered on that promise for millions" but gave no reason for ending them. The company said it looks forward to continuing to innovate and show customers new ways to experience content. The Desk reported that the notice was also sent to customers.
