Spotify has launched technology.spotify.com, a new site that packages its internal engineering tools for sale to other businesses. The move formalises an effort that has been quietly running for years: Spotify has offered the open-source developer portal Backstage since 2020, and has sold its experimentation platform Confidence since 2023 and its development platform Portal since 2024. Earlier this year it added Xirp, a tool for managing AI coding agents.
Spotify's SVP of Technology & Platform, Tyson Singer, said the company's scale — it serves 777 million monthly active users — means it has built systems worth sharing. He acknowledged that the move into enterprise software raises questions, but argued that behind the consumer app are hundreds of engineering squads shipping code continuously.
The new site does not list prices; companies must contact sales to discuss their needs. Spotify has not disclosed how much revenue its enterprise sales generate. Singer also pushed back on the idea that AI makes such tools unnecessary, saying that while AI speeds up building software, complexity and operational costs still grow — and that Spotify's services are designed to be agent-ready.
