Star Wars: Galactic Racer, a new podracing game from developer Fuse Games, is set to launch on October 6 for PC, PS5, and Xbox. The game is a roguelike racing experience that draws directly from the podracing scene in The Phantom Menace, putting players in the role of a cargo pilot named Shade who competes in an underground racing circuit.

Fuse Games is a relatively new studio that includes former staffers from Criterion Games, known for Need for Speed, Burnout, and Star Wars Battlefront. The Verge's review highlights the game's intense, fast-paced races and its authentic Star Wars atmosphere, from grungy vehicles to Huttese chatter. The reviewer describes it as "probably as close as you can get to actually piloting a podracer" and the best realization yet of a game based on that memorable movie sequence.

The review also notes that the campaign can be frustrating, with frequent crashes and runs that can exceed two hours late in the game. Despite that, the reviewer kept coming back for more. With its launch just days away, the game will be available across all major platforms, giving it broad reach in the Star Wars gaming market.
