Tim Cook, who stepped down as Apple CEO in September, says he is not interfering with successor John Ternus. In an interview with The Independent, Cook said he is focused on worldwide policy and government engagement, and is helping Ternus "in any way he sees fit." He described their relationship as based on an "incredible level of trust" and frequent, significant communication.
Cook said he has told Ternus to "make it your own job" and spend time where he can add the most value, adding "don't mimic me. Just like I didn't mimic Steve." Cook said the transition began years ago and he wanted Ternus to have "some wind at his back." Ternus, formerly Apple's hardware chief, introduced the iPhone Duo days after taking over. Cook said he wants the handover to be "the best transition ever" and a textbook example.
