Smart TV buyers often treat their sets as long-term purchases, but software support varies sharply by manufacturer. Samsung is the most generous, offering seven years of Tizen updates for TVs from 2024 and select 2023 models. LG follows with a four-year webOS update guarantee for models from 2022 onward, though those updates arrive a year after they debut on the newest TVs.

Other brands are less specific. Sony sets model-by-model end-of-life dates rather than a blanket policy, and TCL only says it "typically" provides security updates for at least two years after first shipment. Vizio and Roku offer no fixed commitments, while Insignia inherits Amazon's four-year Fire OS support window.

Regional differences also matter. Hisense has pledged up to eight years of support for its VIDAA OS in Europe, but many US Hisense models run Android TV, Fire TV, Google TV, or Roku TV, leaving support to those platform owners. The source notes that once a TV falls out of support, an inexpensive streaming box can extend its useful life.
