TypeSafe AI, the developer of the AI model Jev, has raised $870 million at a $7.5 billion valuation, according to TechCrunch. The round was led by Andreessen Horowitz, with participation from Sequoia and existing investor DCVC. The funding arrives just weeks after Jev's September 15 release.
Jev is built on a transformer architecture but is not a large language model. Rather than generating text, it produces probabilities that TypeSafe calls calibrated decisions. The company says this makes Jev significantly faster and less token-intensive than LLMs, positioning it for automation tasks rather than text or code generation.
TypeSafe claims that a third of Fortune 500 companies are already using the model, a rapid adoption rate for enterprise software. The company was co-founded in 2024 by Diogo Almeida, a former OpenAI researcher, Sasha Sheng, a former Meta research engineer, and Erik Gafni, an engineer and entrepreneur. Almeida has argued that language models are less useful for automation because computers operate in a different language.
