Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton has warned that U.S. companies and the Trump administration need to be wary of AI-related foreign espionage. He made the comments to CNBC in light of the case against Saudi national Abdulrahman Alfozan, who was charged with installing a recording device in an OpenAI conference room.

Clayton said the case shows a threat to U.S. leadership in AI. He also said a White House AI task force, at its first meeting, built on an accord recently signed by President Donald Trump and tech leaders.

The remarks tie a specific espionage case to broader concerns about protecting the U.S. AI sector, which is a focus of the administration's policy efforts.
